If we buy domain and hosting from the same service provider, they get mapped automatically. Let’s think that we have bought a domain from one service provider and hosting from some other service provider. Then we have to map the domain and hosting in order to start building a website.
Steps to Map Domain and Hosting (Go daddy)
Login to your Hosting Provider where you bought your domain (Ex: Godaddy) → Go to my products → Click on DNS → Go to Name Servers → Change to custom name servers → Paste the name servers provided by your hosting provider → Click on Save
How to Install WordPress on a Live Website (Go Daddy)

- You can also give your site title and tag line which are optional and can be edited later also
- Finally, Click on Install
Your site is now live, and you can check it by searching your domain URL in the browser.
What is cPanel
cPanel is an online Linux-based graphical user interface (GUI) that serves as a control panel for website and server administration. You can use cPanel to publish websites, manage domains, organize web files, and set up email accounts, take backups and many more. It is like a root folder which helps us in running our website easily.
How to login to cPanel
You can access or login to your cPanel using the address bar of your browser. Type in https://yoursite.com/cpanel or https://yoursite.com:2083 and give your username and Password to access cPanel.
What is a Sub Domain?
A subdomain is an additional component of our primary domain name. Subdomains are used to organize and browse our website’s various sections. We can have as many subdomains as we like within our main domain. Though subdomain is a part of the main website, search engines treat it as a separate entity.
One of the most typical applications of subdomains is as a testing environment. When you’re updating or building a new version of your website, you can install WordPress on your subdomain and utilize it as a separate entity from your main website.
You may also test your updates and plugins on your subdomain before publishing them to your live site to see how they work.
Ex: https://sports.ndtv.com/, https://food.ndtv.com/. In the above examples, the terms sports and food represent the sub domains and main or primary domain is ndtv.
How to Create a Subdomain & Install WordPress in it
Step 1: Log in to GoDaddy
Go to GoDaddy → My Products → Open Web Hosting → Click Manage → open cPanel
Step 2: Create a Subdomain
In cPanel, find Domains → Subdomains → Enter your subdomain name (Example: blog.yoursite.com) → Choose the main domain from the dropdown → Click on Create → A new folder for the subdomain will be created automatically.
Step 3: Install WordPress on the Subdomain
In cPanel, go to Web Applications / WordPress (or Softaculous Apps Installer) → Click Install WordPress → Click Install → Choose https:// → Select your subdomain from the domain list → Leave the directory field empty → Enter: Site name, Admin username, Password & Email
Step 4: Access WordPress Admin
Use the admin credentials you created → Login URL: https://subdomain.yoursite.com/wp-admin
Conclusion
Setting up a website becomes simple once you understand how domain and hosting work together. By mapping your domain to hosting, installing WordPress on a live website, and learning the basics of cPanel, you gain full control over your website management.
Subdomains allow you to create separate sections like blogs or test sites, and installing WordPress on a subdomain helps you expand or experiment without affecting the main website. With these steps, you can confidently launch, manage, and grow your WordPress website from a single hosting account.
