WordPress makes it easy to create and manage website content, but beginners often get confused between Pages, Posts, and Categories. Understanding the difference between them is essential for building a well-structured website and improving SEO.
In this article, you will learn what WordPress Pages, Posts, and Categories are, how they differ from each other, when to use each one, and step-by-step instructions to create them. This guide is ideal for students, beginners, and business owners using WordPress
Difference between WordPress Page, Post & Category:
Pages
Pages are usually filled with content which we use to promote our products or services. Pages are static and the content will not be changing continuously. We can also create pages and arrange them as subpages in the menu.
Ex: Home, Services, About us, Contact Us etc.,
How to Create a Page in WordPress
- Log in to your WordPress Dashboard
- Go to Pages → Add New
- Enter the page title (e.g., About Us)
- Add content using the block editor
- Click Publish
We can recognize that it is a page if the URL has the website name followed by the page name.
Ex: https://www.digiready.in/all-courses/ – Here all courses is a page
Posts
Posts are nothing but articles. Every post will show the date and year in which it is published followed by the author’s name who wrote it.
Another important thing to be noticed is, usually posts will be displayed in reverse chronological order i.e., recent posts will be displayed on the top and older posts in the bottom.

Categories
We can arrange similar posts under a category. If we are having too many posts and in order to segregate and organize them, we can go for categories. We can assign a post to multiple categories also. We can also create subcategories.
We can recognize that it is a category if the URL has the term ‘category’ mentioned before the category name.
